Pumpkin Bowl Gaining Reputation for “Great fun!” While Raising Funds

Nineteen teams of five were registered for QHCC’s November 12th Pumpkin Bowl and helped raise $6,313 for resident activities. The event again took place at J.D. Legends Strike Zone.  Residents who attended were thrilled to be part of a large family-like spirited event and talked about it the rest of the week. This was the second year for the event that attracts all ages and the business community.  Team participation increased 40% and donations grew by more than $1,150.  The event was designed to:  be financially low risk; appeal to an intergenerational audience; not need a lot of staffing; and permit able and interested residents to participate. Major sponsors:  Go Concepts (Lebanon); Bowling’s Carpet (Maineville); Healthcare Services Group, USA; and Waynesville Pharmacy/Fields Family … [Read more...]

Friends Foundation for the Aging Awards QHCC Grant for New Service Model

In October, FFA awarded a $47,800 grant to support QHCC’s development of a hospitality-based admissions and resident services culture.  Similar to the hotel industry's concierge model of personalized, highly-attentive, well-coordinated and timely service, implementation is expected to increase referrals, census and repeat patronage. This approach will not only benefit patients’ health and well-being and alleviate family stress but will also help emphasize that we are mindful stewards of residents’ healthcare benefits during times of significant uncertainty within the healthcare environment. A care guide is the centerpiece of … [Read more...]

This year’s festival was October 12th and 13th.  Hundreds of juried crafters and artisans from across the U.S. lined the main and side streets.  Attendees come from several states and most park near the schools and ride a shuttle bus to be dropped off at the top of a steep hill a long block from the festival.  Quaker Heights decided to offer something at the festival in keeping with its image of health care service and hospitality that likely would be welcomed by festival-goers—a tented place with tables and chairs to sit down and six-person golf cart rides up the hill to the bus.  QHCC administrative personnel, trustees, committee members and volunteers from our residents’ … [Read more...]

“Celebrating Fathers Picnic” a Hit with Residents and Families

Quaker Heights hosted its annual "Celebrating Fathers Picnic," June 14th, the Friday before Father’s Day. Residents and some of their family members gathered outside at festive tables as our Chef Corey, Dietary Services staff, administrators and other staff served hot dogs and hamburgers right off the grill with homemade potato salad, beans and other fare. It was evident people enjoyed the weather and with each other from the laughter and teasing. Many remarked how nice it was to be together outdoors, and that it reminded them of the family reunions or church gatherings they used to attend. This event was planned and directed by our Activities Director and her staff. … [Read more...]
