Miami University Nursing Alumni Distinguished Service Award

The best gratification in receiving a Distinguished Service Award, according to Wendy Waters-Connell, is being able to recognize the people who helped her get to where she is, the Executive Director of Quaker Heights Care Community, a 110-year-old institution in Waynesville, Ohio. “I don’t feel like I’ve achieved anything great,” she said. “I’ve just worked hard, but I’ve had wonderful people who have helped me get to where I am.” Waters-Connell credits New Miami High School English teacher Stephanie Darbyshire as one of the first educators to urge her toward success by steering her toward the Miami University Regional Campuses. “I was going to be a high-risk student, coming from a socio-economically depressed area, not having a lot of life experience. Churches—We need you!

Our residents love a Sunday morning service here at 9:30 a.m. with hymn singing and spiritual message (for 30 to 45 minutes).  Right now, one church comes  1-2x every month (First Baptist) and we are so grateful.  Usually one person plays the piano, others lead singing and another gives the message.  Perhaps you and your friends would be willing to come to QH after your early service or before your own later church service to lead the service here 1x a month, every other month or quarterly.  Please call Director of Activities Tami Linville  (513-897-6050, ext. 130)to discuss possibilities.  Thank you! … [Read more...]

What people say about Quaker Heights

Out of 92 facilities in the five counties (Warren, Butler, Clinton, Greene and Montgomery) from which Quaker Heights Care Community draws, 8 rated 90 or above in family satisfaction surveys conducted by the State of Ohio.  Quaker Heights is one of the 8, putting it in the top 8.6% of the five-county region. We draw residents, short-stay patients and outpatients from those counties because we are within a 10-20 minute drive of the four that adjoin Warren County and because of our very positive reputation.  The average score for the combined counties is 83.69.  The state average for a rated facility is 85.8.  County averages for Warren and Greene are above the state average. Late February View of New Therapy Wing Construction

Even as this is posted, more has taken shape. .  Thanks to Eugenia Mills, president clerk of the board, for taking this (click on photo at left or "Read More" below to see the full picture) panoramic photo from the Miami Street area, just north of the Museum at the Friends Home (while not pictured, this museum houses local history collections).  You can see the old white brick Friends Meeting House to the far left.  The new wing will offer private short-stay rehab therapy suites, therapy gym and consultation areas.  Completion is scheduled for late summer. … [Read more...]
